Tried to talk to someone and was never successful. Only options were to refer me to a vendor

Tried to talk to someone. Never was successful.

Just referred to vendors to repair or replace. My issue is I have the unit and the model number is never recognized by any place I input it.

I was going to find out about my old fireplace in a recently purchased home. With no success!

Do NOT purchase this product!!!! Horrible customer service!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My glass door blew up while sitting in the living room one morning causing what sounded like an explosion!!! Tiny pieces of shattered glass filled the living room which took days for my wife and I to finally locate every piece.

It gets better, my dog ran across the shattered glass and cut her paw and glass was embedded in her front right paw. The research I conducted, simply explained that the glass had to have been a factory defect and no fault on the homeowner. A woman I dealt with in customer service by the name of Leanne offered no assistance other than I'd have to purchase one on my own because the unit is 3 years old. Yeah, 3 years old which we used approximately 4 to 5 times because we reside in the South!

I priced out a new door and learned the cost would be in excess of $300.00!

I will be just covering the opening with plastic wrap now because I am not in a position to spend that kind of money not including installation. Thank you Heatilator, job well done!!!

Resolved: Troubleshooting

My problem was that I could not locate where a set of batteries were in the remote transmitter.

The site told me to call Acme Stove in Rockville.

Jesse got on the phone and after a number of questions told me the transmitter was in the wall switch. Jesse saved me a ton of time, money and aggravation since we are selling our house and the buyers were frustrated because the remote with fresh batteries did not work.

Jesse was great.

The Heatilator manual is worthless.

Tired of home smelling like smoke

We had our home built by a Custom Home Builder. Have had issues from day one with our A42C wood burning Heatilator.

We have had the company out several times to add chimney pipe and raise chase. We continue to get terrible smoke smell within 15-20 minutes of starting a fire. Tried several different known low smoke wood including maple and beach well seasoned. The dealer that installed the fireplace has convinced the home builder we have a wood burning fireplace therefore our home is going to smell like smoke.

I disagree. We have owned and lived in homes our whole life that has wood burning fireplaces and never have we experienced this. Our new home is not air tight. We do not have spray foam at all and we have ridge cap.

We have even tried to raise window/windows to reduce the smoke smell but nothing helps.

Really sucks we cant use our fireplace because of the smell. If anyone has had this happen and knows a solution please comment!

Zero customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

If I could get zero stars I would. Zero technical help from Heatilator on how to install a mantel through their "non-combustible" material front shield even though they say they allow screws through it yet don't allow framing behind it.

Their instructions show guidelines for installing mantels of different depth as close as 6" to the fireplace appliance opening yet there is nothing to screw into except the heat shield.

Told me to go ask my local distributor for help so I can "buy some parts from them" if needed. Don't ever buy this product, I'm seeinf if I can return both my fireplaces for my home addition.

Stove has been absolutely the worst stove ever. Smokes up my house, horrible design.

Chimney cleaned monthly, and even kept adding joints of pipe to raise it still smokes. Dealer stop returning calls.

Tried another stove from a buddy, worked wonderfully. Dealer and brand of stove gets a big thumbs down

We're having the same problem. Any resolution?

I'm thinking that it is the lack of a true smoke shelf. Poor design.

agree - just the local dealer and sometimes their hands are tied and it would be great to talk to the tech from the big corporate office.

Did all things dealer recommended for gas fireplace that went on intermittently. Last idea they suggested was to replace module. That did not work

Same here bought a Heatilator Aveo ADVR problems from the start, had two services to fix parts and now in April 2018 the fan kit is gone, and they will not replace without payment. The unit was installed May 20 2015 . Heatilator states it will give you years of durable use and trouble free enjoyment .

Bad Electronis- Poor Customer Care

I purchased a new home in 2012 that came with a Heatilator Fireplace with (it turns out) electronic control over the pilot light.

It just failed ( I paid $114 to find that out) and now the part installed costs $591.

Customer Care said too bad-so sad, only a one year warranty and yes these things do fail from time to time. No help.

I suggest that folks do not buy Heatilator products

Tired of it not starting

My heatilator never starts. Have had a repairman here 4 times.

Has been a problem since day 1. Great concept but discussed with it. Many parts have been replaced. Cleaned several times.

Just does not seem to be getting gas. Electric start switch never works . Some times I can light it manually if I try over and over and over again. Some times it will not light at all.

I just get discussed and quit trying then a week later my wife gets on me and I try again . Some times it will light and sometimes it will not. Tired of spending money on it and of course nothing is ever under ware try. My next step I believe is to have it removed and replaced with just fire logs.

There are 5 new houses being built on my street and they have all asked how we like it. I am not one to complain so I just tell them my experience with it and let them make up there own minds.

Heatilator Fireplaces/Bottoms in Customer Service

My 27 year old condo has a Heatilator Fireplace. The doors are in need of replacement.

I emailed their customer service department to inquire as to where I could purchase replacement doors. Their response, verbatim: "Sorry the doors are no longer available." I wrote back to ask for possible substitute doors from other manufacturers. The response was There are no substitutes. So I have to remove the entire fireplace and install a new one?

Because the doors are falling apart? I replaced the doors on my last fireplace and the manufacturer was no longer in business.

All I needed was the Brand, Model and Serial number. If I need a new fireplace, it WILL NOT BE A HEATILATOR.

First of all, it's 27 yeras old. That's the first problem.

Second of all, factory manufactured fireplaces, for the most part, use all proprietary parts. Other than class B vent pipe, there are no "universal/interchangeable" parts or accessories. It was that way then and it is the same way in 2013. Don't get factory manufactured fireplaces confused with all masonary fireplaces that have a world of after market parts and accessories.

Apples and oranges there. I've been selling fireplaces for 18 years and we'll pull out old fireplaces and replace with new ones a couple of times a month. Don't let your ignorance of an industry cloud your judgement in terms of Heatilators customer service.

They just told you the truth. Whether or not it's what you wanted to hear is irrelavant.

Fireplace Guy, loved your response! Do you repair Heatilator fireplaces?

I have an rbv4236it that will spark but not light. I am getting zero return calls from Fireside hearth and home. Unit has never been lit. An honest repair guy came out and looked at everything and said there was gas up to the unit, but he didnt repair heatilators, and he charged me nothing!

I have lived in home one year, but home sat empty for three years after construction.

If you don't do you have a reference? Thanks
